Supply List for Online Classes
Surface: I recommend an artist
stretched canvas in the size given for your projects. Canvas panels (canvas
boards) are also acceptable for my projects. Their surface texture is a little
rougher than artist stretched canvas, thus more wear and tear for your brushes.
Graphite paper: This is used to transfer the design from the pattern onto
the canvas.
Stylus or ink pen: This is used
to trace over the lines when transferring the pattern.
Masking tape: This is used to
secure the pattern on the canvas during the tracing process so the pattern won't
move. This keeps your lines in place.
Water container: Fill this with plain tap water to rinse your brushes
occasionally. You'll also dip the corner of your brush into the water to
create an acrylic wash now and then for some techniques.
Soft paper towels: These are used during the painting process. My favorite
brand is Viva and my next favorite is Bounty.
Grisaille Paints: Linda Coulter Grisaille Paint Set. These are Maimeri
Brera professional quality acrylic paints. I use only 4 tubes of paint.
You will be using my “60 Second Palette” to create the range of gray tone
values.
When you purchase these paints from
me, I'll include a FREE DVD that teaches how to make the 60 Second Grisaille
Palette. It's very easy and quite fun!
Colored Paint: You have two choices. Either oil colors
(my preference) or acrylic colors. I have a Master Color Mixing Chart for
either. The color mix names are the same. Formulas differ just a
bit.
So, it's your choice as to whether to
add color in oils (my personal favorite ... and by far the most forgiving of the
two kinds of paint). Or you can choose to add the color with my acrylic
paints.
Whether you choose oil colors or
acrylic colors, the Linda Coulter EASY Paint Set includes 8 tubes of paint. They
are: white, black, yellow, red, blue, green, golden earth and brown.
Maimeri Safflower Oil is used for oil painting techniques, and should be
purchased with the Linda Coulter EASY Oil Paint Set.
To clean your brushes during the oil painting process, use baby oil. After the
painting session is finished, cleanse your dirty brushes with mild soap and
clear water rinse, or use pink soap, followed by a clear water rinse.
To clean your brushes during the acrylic painting process, use plain tap water.
For stubborn paint clean up use hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol. Final
cleansing can be accomplished with mild soap and water, followed by a clean
water rinse.
Pink Soap is a nice alternative to soap and water for brush cleansing.
Linda Coulter EASY Brush Set: This includes four basic brushes that
are used in all of my online classes.
I like to keep my supplies basic and streamlined to keep your cost down and
teach you multiple ways to use each brush.
Some online courses may require an extra brush or two, but rest assured the list
will be kept at a minimum.
