Pure Color Glazes
Safflower Oil is a natural conductor of light in a oil painting. The use of clear transparent colored pigment allows the artist the luxury of easy application with dramatic results. Transparent colors are the most clean of all pigments. They are similar to tiny bits of ground glass with nothing to stop the flow of sunlight through them. Renaissance masters actually did add ground glass in their colored pigments to enhance the sparkling quality of their art works. This color radiance became the hallmark of Renaissance and Baroque Master Painter. Today's artists enjoy the distinctive advantage of richly saturated oil colors that are clear and clean, bright and extremely powerful. When applied over a classic grisaille foundation these pure color glazes yield a magnificent result in the finished art work. Not only are the colors rich and beautiful but they are also natural conductors of radiant sunlight. This allows natural sunlight to participate in the finished art work.
